Jog Your Memory, the title of Hanna Washburn’s solo sculpture exhibition at the Lake George Arts Project, invites viewers to find personal associations in the materials and the postures found in her multi-layered creations. She builds her pieces from recycled textiles, clothing, household items, embedded with a wide variety of other materials that are repurposed but retain references to previous lives and hold, in her visual language, intimate memories. Materials that are used to build the compound forms are from her own life and the lives of my friends and family. She sews by hand and works intuitively, allowing the forms to grow organically into complex combinations of color, pattern, and texture. The colorful patterned surfaces are shaped to look and behave like bodies or body parts: they droop, gesture, hold space while they seem to be growing and changing. Hanna Washburn is an artist and curator based in Beacon, New York.
Opening reception: Saturday, October 7, 2023, 4:00 - 6:00 PM
